Bio

Sentient Doll

An advanced Allagan automaton made in Azys Lla and retrieved among the ruins of the Crystal Tower. Seemingly the only automaton of her kind, her purpose of creation is unknown even by her.She has the appearance similar to a Lalafell, and can easily mimic human behavior, though her sentences tend to be simpler with few words. Her being artificial isn't at all a secret she keeps - she introduces herself with no name, asking to be called "Sentient Doll", shortened by others as "Senti" or simply "Doll".Cid theorizes that she was created to be a type of accompaniment or guidance node due to her persistence to accompany adventurers and provide assistance in their journeys.

Traits

Sentient Doll

Full of tenacity, curiosity, and silent judgement, Sentient doesn't hold back in showing her disapproval of something (or someone). Likewise, it's also very evident if she enjoys something or someone's presence. The little doll doesn't often speak her mind, but her expressions can be telling enough.Sentient prefers to observe others and sit quietly at a corner. People become wary of her as they find out about her Allagan history , but she's not at all afraid of what people think, and would happily leave if she is unwanted.Primarily a healer, she does her best to provide aid to those in need if it's within her capacity. She isn't easily scathed and is very difficult to break, as a work of Allag and as a Warrior of Light. However she can be overwhelmed, causing her to "lose sentience" or blank out like a ragdoll on the floor. There are times when she does this willingly.

Note from the Player

Hello!

"Sentient Doll" started out as a joke, because I wanted a funny name and be just a funny lil potato, but things got emotional. Yet, somehow the story fit. I hope the reader enjoys learning about this little doll as much as I've enjoyed unraveling our story. Hers is a story about overcoming a path that is destined to be lonely, but a path worth taking so flowers can be sown along the way; tales of loss, of fire, of faith.

Note:
This Section is divided by expansion, and can contain spoilers! Her arc concludes in Endwalker (for now). It mostly follows MSQ but only mentions the parts with significance to the WoL.

Journey

Real isn't how you are made.

A Realm Reborn
“For those we have lost. For those we can yet save.”

The Seventh Umbral EraAn Allagan automaton awakens among the ruins of the Crystal Tower after the Seventh Umbral Calamity. It's retrieved by an elezen explorer only a few meters away from where it came to, sitting on the ground not really knowing what to do, and is brought to Revenant's Toll. The automaton doesn't go by any name, and refuses to be given one. It introduced itself as a creation of Allag, "Sentient Doll", later on to be shortened by others as "Senti" or "Doll". Endeared enough by its curiosity, the Elezen decides to bring it back to the North Shroud where she resides, instead of her earlier plans to bring it to Rowena.Sentient spends time providing aid to adventurers in the Black Shroud, and later on expresses interest in becoming an adventurer herself. The Elezen she resides with lets her go to find her path, knowing that she is not at all just an ordinary, albeit sentient, doll, especially with the abundance of emotions she can express and somehow feel. The Padjals of Gridania feel spiritual aether in what's supposed to be an artificial automaton. The gift of the Echo resides in her despite her not being a living being.None of these inconsistencies hinder her. She wants to help the world. Her journey begins.

The Seventh Astral EraDefeating the Ultima Weapon and Lahabrea, Sentient didn't know she possesses such strength. It makes her happy she could provide this much aid. She feels fulfilled. She is given the title Warrior of Light. The Crystal Tower is being surveyed by a group called NOAH, which includes some members of Garlond Ironworks and the miqo'te G'raha Tia, to whom Sentient feels some sort of familiarity. The investigation eventually leads to an encounter with Amon, or at least a clone of Amon, the marvelous mind responsible for Xande's resurrection, the overseer of Azys Lla, and the only one around that Sentient could consider "family". Facing him felt "wrong" to Sentient, and defeating him made her feel somewhat lonely. That tinge of loneliness grows when NOAH's investigation concludes and G'raha resolves to be in slumber. It grows again after the betrayal of the Crystal Braves and the fall of the Scions.Lord Haurchefant of the Silver Fuller extends his hospitality and grants shelter to Sentient, Alphinaud and Tataru in the cold city-state of Ishgard.

“A smile better suits a hero.”

The Paths We WalkSentient couldn't feel the cold of Ishgard, but with how things are, she might as well could. She wants to be of help. How could she bring the Scions back together? They are given shelter in House Fortemps. Lord Haurchefant has proven to be selfless when it comes to assisting the Warrior of Light. And truly selfless he was...; She couldn't mend it. Despite all the healing she learned, it doesn't mend...Grief was something Sentient didn't understand until now - the mortality of those around her has never been so present. Edmond de Frotemps gives her the shield of a Fortemps knight. With it, and a sword, she learns to protect so she wouldn't need to mend.Azys LlaThe feeling of dread that fills her after knowing she has to visit Azys Lla doesn't waver her from chasing down the Archbishop, especially with Ysayle having paved the way. She feels a connection to the place, a connection she doesn't welcome. What did she do before her current awakening? What monstrosities did she help create? Is she, herself, one of those monstrosities? Despite the inhumanity that Azys Llla stood for, it's still "home".The Archbishop is taken down, and the Warring Triad slowly awakens. With Unukalhai's assistance, they are defeated. Unukalhai's expression of solitude stirs Sentient's feeling of disconnection and loneliness once again.

The Dragonsong WarSentient continues the mission to finally end the war between dragon and man. Having to separate the Eyes of Nidhogg from Estinien, she and Alphinaud receive help from the souls of two friends, somehow emerging from the aetherial stream, which she is now aware that she will never return to. Though she doesn't plan to, even if she could.Another moment of peace, though lives were lost. No more losses, she tells herself - a newfound resolve to keep those she holds dear with her for as long as she could, for as long as they are able, while she faces eternity. Though she knows not her original purpose of being, she is now the Warrior of Light. Sentient is no longer a prisoner of Azys Lla.She helps Francel with Ishgard Restoration in rebuilding the Firmament once the war ends, and eventually upon its completion, chooses Empyreum as her new home. The Elezen who first found her back in Mor Dhona has a sibling that has a plot in Empyreum, and he offers to take her in.

Senti doesn't like this partZenos is wierd...Asahi is weird...Magnai is funny. I like Magnai. And so, the Warrior of Light's journey takes her on a mission to reclaim Ala Mhigo.

Shadowbringers
“Remember. Remember us. Remember that we once lived."

Let Expanse Contract, Eon Become InstantThe first time she sees the Crystal Tower in the First, the first time she meets the Exarch, Sentient knew. The loneliness that was left on her before and that had persisted until now, fades away almost immediately. After gathering the Scions, whose original bodies are left behind at the Source, the Exarch tasks her to rid of the Lightwardens and take on the mantle as the Warrior of Darkness. Sentient interprets the mission perhaps a bit too literally and learns black magic with the help of Y'shtola and Alisae, that she can use alongside the white magic she already knows. In her mission, Sentient is accompanied by, though involuntarily, Ardbert's soul. She likes the company, especially that of one who she feels a big connection to. She doesn't know why, she simply knows Ardbert's presence is a comfort. That comfort eased her helplessness when the mysterious Emet-Selch captures the Exarch, revealed to be indeed G'raha Tia, while Sentient struggles and fails to conceal the light within. After the many trials she has surpassed, to fail one whilst losing a friend yet again, she feels broken. She doesn't know if she's doing things right and starts to doubt whether she is deserving of the title as a Warrior. She is just a doll who wants to help, otherwise, what else would she do?Sentient's spirits are raised by Ardbert and Feo Ul, who believe in her despite her doubts. The Scions and G'raha Tia make it known that they believe in her just the same.Holding on to their belief, she succeeds.

The Seat of AzemEmet-Selch, Elidibus, and a mimic of a "new old friend" named Hythlodaeus, all reveal truths about Hydaelyn, Zodiark, the Ascians, The Convocation of the Fourteen, and The Sundering.Sentient begins to understand her existence - that a soul resides within her, that a soul somehow made their way to a lifeless doll, and gave her the ability to hear others' words with deep understanding, feel a vast number of emotions, and think for herself, not how she was made to. This soul belonged to the one who once held the seat of Azem.

Endwalker
“To you I say…forge ahead. May all our tomorrows be blessed with joy."

Amidst deepest despair, light everlasting.Sitting in Garlemald, now in ruins because of the Telophoroi, Sentient takes in the view of a place once full of life, now empty. Ruins always makes her feel wistful - what possible futures would she be part of? Would she always be viewing fragments of many pasts just like this? The Final Days are brought upon the star, unknowingly by the Scions themselves. With Zodiark defeated, Fandaniel's plans are set in motion. It's a race against time, something Sentient thought she had much of.Setting foot in Elpis, Sentient feels happiness, belongingness. This is a world long gone and yet it's here right before her eyes, a world in which the soul she bears existed in. She wishes she could call it home, but it's Azem's Azys Lla, not hers. And its overseer, Hermes, is not her Amon, but is the "family" she hoped Amon could've been. Many discoveries lead her to an encounter with Amon one last time, and upon his defeat, she feels pain, sadness, but also, hope - hope for her eternal days to be full of gratitude for the soul she bears that makes her feel, whether it be loneliness or happiness - it makes the journey worthwhile, and her existence rewarding. She wishes to share this hope with Meteion, Hermes' creation, that to live is to suffer, but also to rise.

Unburdened by RegretAll events that transpire remind her that the soul she harbors is hers. It exists for her to be. She is where she is meant to be, and this "life", this sentience granted to her will be what she makes of it. She is an allagan doll, but also, she is Azem.Body from an empire that fell to chaos, Heart from a world that has faded away. To accompany adventurers in their journeys ahead, to protect those around her and keep them close, to carry the memories of Ancients long gone, to be a beacon of hope to those in despair - until the day she can no longer walk, she will continue to be the everliving Sentient Doll.
